If you have difficulties in listening and embarrassing when
you can’t understand spoken English, this
article will help you out to overcome this common problem for English learners.
The tips I explain here will be the answers for these
questions; why learners feel difficult in English
speaking? & how to improve your spoken English skill?
Listening to English helps
to have successful understanding in 3 ways:
1. Many English
words are pronounced differently from their written form. Such as Thought, Island, Muscle, Apple, Father, Game etc.
2. The native speakers talk fast, why because of they
can ‘link’ the words together while talking. We don’t pronounce every
individual word clearly.
·
How are you feeling today?
Howrya feelin’ today?
·
I’m going to have lunch.
I’m gonnahav
lunch.
The word ‘linking’ happens in all English sentences when speaking, and it’s one of the biggest reasons
that it’s too difficult to understand for
learners from other language. When you get the words linked in a sentence you
might not feel difficult while learning.
3. Too little practice:
Most learners read the sentences too much but don’t listen to
enough English. Listening builds a strong foundation in learning. Just for example, babies and school children are
learning English by listening first and
they read later. So that understand the English
listening practice is essential for learning good English!
There are two ways to improve your spoken English knowledge:
Practicing every day-
create a habit of listening English for
at least 15 to 30 minutes every day. If you are busy and you do not have enough much time then listen to English
audios, FM’s, English Songs, English news
etc. when on travel to somewhere or at your workplace or in your free time.
Practicing in right
way - listen some general topic audios, relax and know that it’s totally
normal to have limited understanding at the first time you listen. When listening to the first time don’t try to understand the entire meaning, just go through and get understand the main idea
what they convey. Listen in second time try to find some more specific
sentences and details. Listen at the third
time and now you pay more attention to the individual words in the audio. Finally,
you will get some clear idea about the topic.
This is the most effective way to practice and that will
improve your listening ability. When your listening
skill is constant and strong, you can easily improve your spoken English too faster.
